Rising sprint sensation Maurice Gleaton Jr. is making headlines both for his record-breaking speed and his growing maturity on and off the track.

At the recent Star Athletics Sprint Series, the Langston Hughes High School star delivered eye-popping performances in the 100m, clocking 9.87 and 9.83 seconds in back-to-back races, both victories.

The 200m silver medalist from the Nike Outdoor Nationals admitted he was nervous facing someone of Coleman’s caliber.

“Going into this race, I was kind of nervous, racing Christian Coleman,” he said in a post-race interview as quoted by Sportskeeda.

“But I know I executed my plan, I stayed in my own lane, kind of focused on me, and came out on top.”

Gleaton Jr.’s performances were an early indicator of his readiness ahead of the upcoming Nike Outdoor Nationals, where he will look to further cement his status as one of the nation’s most promising young sprinters.

Shortly after his victory, an emotional Gleaton Jr. found himself needing to extend an olive branch to both Christian Coleman and Sha'Carri Richardson, following what he described as a misunderstood post-race altercation.

The gesture underscored a moment of growth for Gleaton Jr., who is now learning the importance of humility and professionalism while navigating the spotlight.

Meanwhile, Coleman, who missed out on a place in the 2024 Olympic relay team due to a baton mishap, continues to reflect on his own journey.

“I know there's just another level that I can tap into,” Coleman said, pledging to pursue his peak form before eventually stepping away from the sport.

Adding a layer of public interest, Coleman is currently in a relationship with Olympic siverl medlaist and 100m world champion Sha’Carri Richardson.
