Kenyan Teen Sensation Tipped to Play for Dutch Giants Ajax - ‘Would Be a Wonderful Fit’
Kenyan midfielder Stanley Wilson’s future at Swedish club AIK looked bleak late last year but four months later, he is enjoying a career revival and even tipped to play for one of Europe’s top clubs.
Wilson joined AIK in September 2024 from Kariobangi Sharks but struggled for gametime, playing just three matches, and had to contend with a loan spell away to Enkoping SK, making nine appearances, before he returned last November.
At the time, his future was not certain but things have since changed following the appointment of Spanish coach Jose Riveiro. The former Orlando Pirates tactician, known to give young players opportunities and turn them into stars, is applying his magic on Wilson.
So far this season, Wilson has made 10 appearances for AIK and what is striking is Riveiro’s decision switch his positions. A defensive midfielder by trade, Riveiro has been using the 19-year-old as an inverted full-back, playing him more at left-back and occasionally as a right-back.
What Makes Stanley Wilson Stand Out?
His impressive performances have seen him start all the 10 games and now looks like a player reborn and a key component for the 12-time Swedish champions.

“Wilson is very gifted technically and he’s so calm under pressure. He weights his passes to perfection,” football expert Bence Bocsak, who analyses top young players in Europe, wrote on X.
“In the build-up he is one of the focal points for AIK. He’s regularly moving into space to receive the ball and when he does, he’s quick to move it on with one or two touches.
“He’s crucial for AIK in progressing them to the final third. Wilson excels at making line-breaking and vertical passes,” he further wrote in his analysis of the player.
Wilson has the most passes into the final third in the Swedish top flight, Allsvenskan, this season (12.7 per 90 minutes) and ranks among the top five for progressive passes (11.6 per 90 minutes). Bocsak is also impressed by his aggression added to his ability to intercept many passes and cover a lot of ground plus his qualities on one-on-one situations.
Kenyan Star Tipped for Ajax and EPL Clubs
All these are qualities he feels can transform the Kenyan youngster to a top player that can even play in the English Premier League but he believes it will not be long before Wilson plays for a top club in Belgium or the Netherlands, specifically Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam.
“I definitely think he’s good enough to be a key player for the right team in Belgium or the Netherlands. Would be a wonderful fit for a team like Ajax for example,” he added.
“And if he continues his development, I can envision him in the Premier League one day. Someone like Brighton should already be looking at him - especially with a possible pathway to Union SG.”
Wilson joined AIK for a reported $200,000 (Ksh25.8 million as per current exchange rate) after starring for Sharks and Kenya U18 and after initially looking like a bad move, Riveiro is unleashing his full potential and it appears the Swedish club could make a significant profit on their investment in a not so distant future.
