Kenya 7s stars Patrick Odongo and Kevin Wekesa are set for yet another international outing — this time in France — where they will represent Monaco Rugby Sevens in the 2025 In Extenso Supersevens, a month-long professional rugby sevens tournament that features elite French Top 14 clubs and invited sides such as Monaco and the Barbarians.

The two Shujaa players are among the 16 teams’ rosters for this year’s edition, which kicks off in August.

According to SportPesa Blog sources, Odongo and Wekesa have signed on to compete in the prestigious event, which serves as France’s premier professional sevens championship.

The duo made headlines in June 2025 after becoming the first Kenyan players to feature in India’s inaugural Rugby Premier League, where they played a key role in their team’s success. Now, they’re on to an even bigger stage in Europe.

Wekesa, a familiar face at Monaco, returns for his second straight Supersevens season, having impressed in 2024 where he won the Pau leg and clinched silver in La Rochelle. Odongo, on the other hand, is making his debut in the French league, marking yet another milestone in his flourishing rugby journey.

They follow in the footsteps of Kenyan powerhouse Alvin ‘Buffa’ Otieno, who helped Monaco win the overall title in 2022.

Their selection means Odongo and Wekesa will miss local action in the ongoing 2025 SportPesa National Sevens Circuit. In the season opener, Wekesa guided Kabras Sugar RFC to third place at Driftwood 7s, while Odongo’s Daystar Falcons finished 12th.

Launched in 2019 by France’s Ligue Nationale de Rugby, the In Extenso Supersevens is the first professional rugby sevens competition in France.

It has grown to become a showcase of sevens excellence in Europe, and for Kenyan stars like Odongo and Wekesa, it’s a vital opportunity to test themselves against the best.

With the duo set to don the Monaco jersey, Kenyan fans will be watching closely as Shujaa’s finest chase glory in the heart of European rugby.
