Where is Pitso Mosimane? The Real Reason the Former Sundowns Boss is Still Without a Club
Renowned South African coach Pitso Mosimane has offered a glimpse into his life away from the high-pressure world of professional football management.
The 61-year-old tactician has been without a club since he departed from Iranian side Esteghlal in January of last year.
Despite his hiatus, the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana manager remains a sought-after figure, recently linked to the vacant head coach position for Ghana's national team and Algerian club Belouizdad.
Pitso Mosimane Remains Mum on Interest from Top Clubs
However, in a recent discussion with Soccer Laduma, Pitso Mosimane chose not to address the speculation, instead revealing his intense focus on a different aspect of the game.
"It’s been a very busy time for me," he stated, referring to his work with the Pitso Mosimane Soccer Schools (PMSS).
The PMSS initiative is dedicated to youth football development, a field Mosimane has immersed himself in. He recently presented a comprehensive youth football manual at SAFA House and has also engaged with COSAFA, expressing hope that CAF might also adopt the guide.
"I didn’t know anything about youth football. I only coached professionals," Pitso Mosimane admitted. "So, I spent two and a half years researching youth football."
This extensive research involved consultations with various football associations, particularly in Europe. The goal was to create a manual that provides structured coaching guidance for different age groups, from five to eighteen years old.
The PMSS, which employs 100 coaches, partners with educational institutions to integrate its curriculum into the school day.
According to its website, the program is currently active in 18 Curro Schools across South Africa, combining physical education with an extracurricular football program.
Pitso Mosimane Ambition for His Youth Academy
Pitso Mosimane also shared his long-term ambition: to establish a dedicated youth academy akin to the famed School of Excellence. He disclosed that he had attempted to acquire the School of Excellence, but the facility was ultimately secured by Chippa United chairman Siviwe Mpengesi.
"The ultimate goal for PMSS is to have a school that specialises in football," Pitso Mosimane explained. "The talent is here in South Africa."
While the football community anticipates his return to a top-tier coaching role, Mosimane is already making a significant impact behind the scenes, building a foundation for the next generation.
"We have now reached 13,000 participants and 100 coaches across the Curro schools," he concluded. "It’s a lot of work, but there’s more to come."
