What NFF & NPFL clubs can learn from Ghana FA boss' message on new media
In a recent post, Ghana FA boss Kurt Okraku shared his research on how clubs utilise new media platforms to generate revenue and better tell their stories.
Okraku's research into the digital presence of Ghana Premier League (GPL) clubs uncovered some interesting findings that NPFL clubs should take note of.
Here are six important takeaways from the Ghana FA boss’ post on the social media platform Facebook.
1. Importance of Storytelling
Okraku emphasized the need to tell the clubs' stories better using cost-effective and reliable mediums.
NPFL clubs can learn to leverage various media platforms to showcase their team's history, players, and achievements, engaging with their fans and potential sponsors.
2. Embracing New Media Platforms
Okraku's research revealed that only 7 out of 18 GPL clubs have active YouTube accounts, while 9 clubs don't have any YouTube presence at all.
NPFL clubs can learn from this and actively create and maintain their own YouTube channels to reach a wider audience and generate revenue.
3. Cashing Out via YouTube
He highlighted the potential for clubs to generate revenue through their YouTube channels, especially in an era of financial constraints.
clubs can explore monetization options on YouTube, such as advertising, sponsorships, and content monetization, to diversify their revenue streams.
4. Proactive Approach
The findings suggest that while some GPL clubs have a presence, they are not actively using their existing YouTube accounts.
NPFL clubs can learn to take a more proactive approach to managing their digital presence, regularly updating content, engaging with fans, and monitoring their performance on these platforms.
5. Leveraging Data and Insights
This understanding of the digital landscape of GPL clubs can serve as a model for NPFL clubs.
By conducting similar analyses, NPFL clubs can also gain valuable insights into their own digital footprint and identify areas for improvement.
The Ghana FA boss' willingness to explore unconventional revenue streams, such as YouTube, demonstrates a mindset of innovation.
Nigeria’s NFF led by President Ibrahim Gusau can also help NPFL clubs learn to adopt a similar mindset and to constantly seek new ways to generate revenue and engage with their stakeholders.
By implementing these lessons, NPFL clubs can enhance their digital presence, diversify their revenue streams, and ultimately improve the overall financial sustainability of the league.
