Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka has expressed optimism as Nigeria prepares for its crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, despite the team's underwhelming start to the campaign.

The Brentford man stressed that the squad is determined to deliver and is doing everything possible to turn their fortunes around.

Eric Chelle's men host Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Saturday evening before traveling to Bloemfontein to face South Africa next week.

The pressure has been amplified by South Africa's recent 3-0 victory over Lesotho, which makes the path to qualification even more challenging for the Super Eagles.

Speaking to Victor Modo, Onyeka admitted the team has underperformed in previous fixtures but underlined their resolve to turn things around.

“I know it’s not easy feeling this way, especially after the past games. We’re in a difficult position now, but as a team, we are doing everything we can.

We are confident, we are training hard, and the coaches, as well as everyone in the squad, believe we can come out with good results.”

With only seven points from six qualifying games, the Super Eagles are in a perilous position and are relying on winning their remaining matches while hoping for favorable results elsewhere in the group.
