WATCH: Gout Gout Breaks Usain Bolt's World Record With Stunning Run
Australian wonderkid Gout Gout lived up to the hype as the ‘next Usain Bolt’ when he lowered one of the Jamaican great’s world records on Sunday morning.
Gout Gout brought the roof down with an outstating performance on the last day of the 2026 Australian Athletics Championships in Sydney when he obliterated his 200m national record to win in a scorching 19.67 seconds.
The 18-year-old shaved a huge chunk off his previous mark of 20.02 seconds to become the first Australian to break the 20-second barrier. Most importantly, Gout's time also saw him set a new world under-20 record, beating Bolt’s mark of 19.93 seconds at the same age from 2004.

It was a historic race that also saw second-placed Aidan Murphy dip under 20 seconds as he finished in 19.88 while Gout’s main rival Lachlan Kennedy withdrew from the event a day after winning the 100m in 9.96 seconds.
Gout Gout Thrilled With Legal Record
That denied fans a spectacle between the two highly-rated young Australian sprinters but Gout Gout made sure it was still a spectacle with his impressive show, putting aside any doubts about his quality, having run a sub-20-second 200m race last year but an illegal tailwind factor of +1.7 denying him the record.
“There’s a big weight off my shoulders knowing I ran it legally, and I have the speed and my body to run times like that,” Gout told the media after the race. “So it definitely feels great, and ready for more."
“It’s been in my mind this whole year, these past couple of months, so glad I got it for sure. I wrote down 19.75 and for the past week in my head I would tell myself, ‘I’m running 19.75,’ and obviously 19.67, so you know – got to love it,” he added.
The teen sensation is tuning up for the 2026 World U20 Championships in Oregon in August and more records could be witnessed from him before and during the event, having opted against featuring at this year’s Commonwealth Games.
