Africa’s fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, has kick-started his individual 2026 outdoor season with a commanding victory in South Africa.

The reigning Commonwealth Games champion clocked an impressive 10.19 seconds to cross the finish line first in the men’s 100m at the Cape Milers Club meet in Stellenbosch.

Ubay Arend finished second in 10.55 seconds. Keegan Van Der Merwe rounded up the podium in the race in a time of 10.56 seconds.

Ferdinand Omanyala opened his outdoor season at the Lefika International Relays, guiding the 4x100m mixed relay team to a second-place finish in 41.70 seconds.

Ferdinand Omanyala also competed in the men’s 4x100m relay, finishing second in their final in a time of 39.12 seconds.

“Thank you, Stellenbosch for showering me with so much love and support,” Ferdinand Omanyala shared in a post on his Instagram handle. “Success is the only revenge that cannot be questioned.”

Ferdinand Omanyala began his indoor tour at the indoor meeting in Paris, where he finished fourth in the heats and did not make the final.

The Kenyan sprint sensation then competed at the Elite Indoor Track Miramas Meeting, where he booked a slot in the final after finishing third in the heats, before placing eighth in the final.

After his race in South Africa, Ferdinand Omanyala will proceed to the Addis Ababa Grand Prix on April 18. Ferdinand Omanyala will then race at the Kip Keino Classic on April 24, where he will be looking to bounce back to winning ways.

Ferdinand Omanyala debuted at the Kip Keino Classic in 2021, as he set a new African record of 9.77 seconds. Ferdinand Omanyala then claimed top honours in the 2022 edition of the event, claiming the victory in a time of 9.85 seconds.

The Africa 100m record holder then went on to defend his title in 2023, but endured a difficult outing in 2024, where he finished fifth. He finished third in 2025.

After the Kip Keino Classic, Ferdinand Omanyala head to the Botswana Golden Grand Prix on April 26 and then complete his first quarter of the year at the World Athletics Relays.
