Victor Wanyama on Maurio Pochettino Influence on His Career
Speaking on the Pitchside with Tabu Peter podcast, Victor Wanyama reflected on how he managed to establish confidence with former manager Mauricio Pochettino, explaining that such belief from a coach is something that must be earned rather than given freely.
Victor Wanyama noted that players are required to consistently demonstrate reliability and high standards whenever they are on the pitch in order to be considered dependable.
The former Harambee Stars captain added that maintaining that level of consistency was key to building a strong working relationship with his coach, as it allowed the manager to feel assured in his abilities during important moments.
He further stated that through sustained effort and commitment in training and matches, he was able to convince Pochettino that he could be relied upon whenever called upon, reinforcing the trust between them over time.
“Yeah, I think it's great to see a coach that believes in you, you know, and it's not easy. As a player, you have to show something for the coach to trust you. You have to be there every time you step on the pitch so that the coach can have that trust in you, and that's exactly what I did. And since then, he knew that when he needed me, I would deliver,” Victor Wanyama said.
