Victor Wanyama Reveals His Biggest Excitement After Retiring from Professional Football
Former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama has expressed his desire to spend more time with his family following his retirement from professional football.
He admitted that his playing career often kept him away from home, limiting the time he could share with his loved ones, and said he is now looking forward to embracing a slower pace of life and focusing on family priorities.
Victor Wanyama hails from a well-known footballing family, led by his father, Noah Wanyama, a former AFC Leopards and Harambee Stars winger and his late mother, Mildred Wanyama.
His brothers also made their mark in the sport, including McDonald Mariga, a UEFA Champions League winner with Inter Milan, as well as Thomas and Sylvester Wanyama, who both featured in the Kenyan Premier League. He is also in a long-term relationship with Serah Teshna, and together they have two sons.
Victor Wanyama: I Treasure Every Moment with Them
Victor Wanyama explained that his passion for football has always been natural and deeply rooted, noting that his career was driven by a genuine affection for the sport rather than external pressure or regret.
The former Montreal CF midfielder reflected that, like many others, he has always had a strong connection to the game, and even as he steps away from professional play, that admiration remains unchanged.
Victor Wanyama went on to say that retirement now allows him to enjoy a more balanced life, especially by dedicating quality time to his family.
He expressed excitement about being able to engage more in everyday family activities, including spending time outdoors with his children, something his playing career often limited.
Wanyama added that being close to his loved ones brings him great fulfilment, as he values every shared moment with them.
“It’s just the love of the game. I can't blame anyone, you know. Well, everybody loves football, and I still love football. But now that I have time, I can go out with my family, you know, take my kids out. It's just nice, you know, to be with them,” Victor Wanyama said in an interview on Pitchside With Tabu Peter.
“And I treasure every moment, every time that I am with them. It's always special being around them. They have been part of my football journey, and they'll always be part of whatever I do in football. So it's always good to be with them.”
