Heading into the 10th minute, Gor Mahia had settled seamlessly into the rhythm of the match, aggressively testing the Tusker defence with several early attempts on goal to signal their intent.
However, in the 15th minute, the momentum shifted dramatically as Tusker FC capitalised on their very first attempt on goal to take the lead against the run of play.
Despite Gor Mahia’s early dominance and a string of wasted opportunities at the other end, the Brewers turned the tide to make it 1-0, thanks to a rebound strike by Ibrahim Joshua.
In the 21st minute, Tusker FC’s slender lead remained intact thanks to Pavelh Ndzila, who produced a moment of individual brilliance to deny Gor Mahia an equaliser during a dangerous one-on-one counter-attack.
In the 24th minute, Enock Morisson pinged an inch-perfect long ball across the pitch to Shariff Musa, who controlled it well and drove into the box, only for the final attempt to skip agonisingly wide.
The right flank sparked into life as Paul Ochuoga and Patrick Essombe combined for a quick exchange, but the resulting cross was decisively blocked by a resolute Tusker defence in the 35th minute.
Controversy erupted in the 40th minute when Patrick Essombe appeared to be brought down inside the box, only for the referee to wave away the penalty appeals.
The decision sparked a heated reaction from the touchline, resulting in a yellow card for Gor Mahia assistant Bismark Kobi-Mensah as he protested.
Essombe ignited the second half with a driving run before picking out Alpha Onyango, whose goalbound effort was heroically cleared off the line by the Brewers.
A pinpoint free-kick from Morisson found the rising Frank Odhiambo in the 52nd minute, but the defender's powerful header skipped agonisingly inches wide of the post.
Fresh energy arrived for Gor Mahia in the 71st minute as Samuel Kapen and Kwadwo Adu-Kwaw entered the fray, replacing Paul Ochuoga and Shariff Musa.
Dwang showcased a burst of speed down the flank in the 75th minute, but his attempted delivery was quickly intercepted by the Tusker defence, resulting in a throw-in for the visitors.
Gor Mahia continued their strategic changes in the 83rd minute, a final throw of the dice, looking to utilise fresh legs in the middle of the park.
Despite last-minute changes and efforts to equalise, Gor Mahia failed to live up to the billing, eventually losing the match to Tusker FC.
