Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali thanks Nigerians for support after tough spell
Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has expressed his gratitude to fans for their concern and well-wishes during a ‘strenuous time’ at the AFCON 2023.
Pulse Sports reports that Nwabali picked up an injury during the Super Eagles comprehensive 2-0 victory against Cameroon in the round of 16.
Nwabali’s injury for Super Eagles
The 27-year-old has been a calming influence at the back for the Super Eagles in their bid to win a fourth AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire.
However, that goal suffered a setback when the Chippa United goalkeeper was stretched off against the Indomitable Lions following a dangerous collision with a Cameroon defender.
Nwabali’s injury set shock waves around Nigeria and amongst Nigerians, who dreaded the thought of losing the confident stop-stopper at this crucial stage of the competition.
However, after days of doubt, the former Wikki Tourist man is reportedly set to be available for the quarterfinal clash against Angola.
Grateful Nwabali reacts
In a post on Twitter, the Super Eagles star thanked the fans for their concern while hinting he would be available after the injury picked up against Cameroon.
“Thanks to everyone that [sic] checked up and showed disquiet in one way or the other at this strenuous time,” Nwabali stated.
“I appreciate. We’re all human and anything is prone to happen. Onto the next one!”
Nigeria will face a familiar foe when the Super Eagles go head-to-head with the Palancas Negras in the last eight on Friday evening.
