Super Eagles get Injury Boost: Stanley Nwabali returns to training ahead crucial Angola clash
Nigeria has been handed a fitness boost ahead of the crucial Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON 2023, clash against Angola with Stanley Nwabali returning to training.
The Super Eagles goalkeeper in Cote d’Ivoire had been a doubt for the quarterfinal encounter after picking up an injury against Cameroon in the round of 16.
Nwabali and Super Eagles
The 27-year-old has become an undroppable member of the Super Eagles defence after an impressive AFCON 2023 campaign.
Nwabali’s calmness and confidence have helped Nigeria to three clean sheets in four matches but the country was thrown into a pandemonium after he was stretched off against the Indomitable Lions.
As reported by Pulse Sports, the Chippa United goalkeeper was examined by the Nigerian doctors after what had looked like a suspected knee injury.
However, according to a video by Naija Football, Nwabali is back in training in time for the game against the Palancas Negras on Friday night.
“Stanley Nwabali is back in training and working hard to get fit for Friday's clash against Angola,” the post stated alongside a video of the goalkeeper looking sharp in training.
Nwabali did undergo a scan in Ivory Coast with results indicating that the knock he picked up in the round of 16 clash was not as serious as it had looked.
The former Wikki Tourist man, who collided with Georges Kevin N’Koudou of Cameroon, has conceded just one goal in four matches so far at the AFCON 2023.
His return will be a welcomed development for manager, Jose Peseiro, and Nigerians, who have been anxiously hoping and praying for the new Super Eagles number one.
Nwabali’s confidence, calmness and leadership qualities have added a breath of fresh air to the defence line and his availability is a timely boost for the Eagles as they look to seal a ticket to the semifinals.
