The Cityzens continued their perfect start to the 2023/24 season with a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest, but they suffered a loss of a different kind.
Midfielder Rodri received the first red card of his Manchester City career just after the halftime break, leaving the defending champions with a difficult second half.
It took only 27 seconds for Rodri to see red after the second-half restart following a violent attack on Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White which referee Anthony Taylor deemed unpardonable.
Rodri sets unwanted Premier League record
The red card, merely seconds after the half-time break, put Rodri among the Premier League’s badboys as he became the recipient of the fastest red card at the start of the second half in the competition’s history.
The first red card of Rodri’s Manchester City career not only left the Cityzens with a difficult task against Nottingham Forest but also jeopardized the fixture against Arsenal as the Spanish defensive midfielder is set to be suspended for the tie against the second-placed team last season.

Rodri will also miss games against Newcastle and Wolves for Manchester City, adding to the Cityzens growing list of absentees due to injury and suspension.
