Reece James 'honoured' to be new leader of Pochettino's Chelsea revolution
Chelsea’s academy graduate Reece James is a happy man after the club announced him as the new skipper.
The Blues confirmed the England International as the new club captain following the departure of Caesar Azpilicueta.
James gets Chelsea’s armband
The club announced the decision through a statement on their official website on Wednesday evening.
Chelsea noted that Reece, who joined the club at the age of six, was the standout choice for the armband.
And according to the manager, Pochettino, the Cobham graduate was chosen because of his exemplary attitude and dedication.
“‘This is a decision taken by me and the club,” he told the club’s media. “We are very pleased Reece will captain the side this season.”
“He leads by example and his attitude and dedication to Chelsea has been clear throughout pre-season. He proudly wore the armband during our summer tour and will take up the challenge of leading our squad with his own approach and ideas.”
Also, apart from his outstanding qualities as highlighted, Reece’s long connection with the club was also mentioned as a key factor.
“Reece’s connection with Chelsea has been forged over 17 years,” sporting directors Co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart added.
“He understands the traditions of the club and the responsibilities that come with being captain.”
