It is the end of an era at Real Madrid after the club confirmed the imminent departure of French forward Karim Benzema.
Benzema will not stay at the Santiago Bernabeu beyond this summer the La Liga giants have revealed on Sunday morning.
Real Madrid confirmed this through a statement on their official website as reported by Pulse Sports Nigeria.
Real Madrid and our captain [Karim] Benzema have agreed to end their brilliant and unforgettable time as a player of our club,” the club stated.
Benzema’s brief at Real Madrid
The 35-year-old will leave the club after an incredibly successful period which saw him win 25 titles.
He arrived as a 21-year-old back in the summer of 2009 and will leave as a club legend after becoming the club’s most decorated player ever.
The forward won five Champions League titles, five Club World Cups and Four European Super Cups amongst others.
Benzema is also Real Madrid’s second-highest-ever scorer with 353 goals.
Real Madrid reveal lavish Plans
Speaking on Benzema's departure, Real are expected to host a special party for the club skipper.
According to the club, they will pay homage to their legend next.
“Next Tuesday, an institutional act of homage and farewell to Benzema will take place in Real Madrid, with the presence of our president Florentino Perez,” the club added.
Benzema’s time at the club has been described as an example of behaviour and professionalism.
