It was a case of style over substance in the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, on Sunday as a dapper Remo Stars donned a specially designed outfit for their clash against Sunshine Stars.

Remo Stars arrived for the derby clash clad in a new style before going on to defeat the Akure Gunners 2-0 in the week 17 encounter in Ikenne, Ogun State.

The NPFL leaders were better on and off the pitch, stealing the show before the match started with an eye-catching new style, inspired by their Owambe-themed pre-match dressing.

Players of the Sky Blues swaggered in their remarkably tailored suits, setting social media alight with images of their bold and fashionable outfits.

“New year New style,” Remo Stars stated on their X.com, former Twitter, account. “Arriving for the derby in a southwest mood,” the club added.

Of course, the reactions from Nigerians and NPFL fans and followers alike were positive, with some of the fans calling on the club to ensure they repeat this in subsequent matches.

“Loving this branding,” an X user, Ogunbe Setonyon stated. “This is lovely and good for our league. Content creation is top-notch in NPFL this season. All thanks to this our club sides, players, and admins, not leaving out the journalists who believe this can work.”

“I rate this,” another X user, Kemisanwo noted, with Ehis Da Blis adding; “Correct correct this is how you know a team that is in it to win the league. Kudos.”

Late Drama for Remo Stars

Meanwhile, despite the impressive and grand arrival, Sunshine Stars proved to be a hard nut to crack on the pitch for Remo Stars. 

The Sky Blues were held to a goalless affair until the 90th minute by the Akure Gunners before a late drama saw the visitors capitulate.

Aniekeme Okon finally broke the deadlock in the 90th to ease the tension at the Remo Stars Stadium before Remo were reduced to 10 men following a red card in added time. 

Despite the numerical disadvantage, the hosts doubled the lead in added time to wrap up the win and three points which saw them remain at the top of the table on 32 points.
