Remo Stars suffer embarrassing heavy defeat to crisis-ridden Heartland
Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, leaders, Remo Stars, have suffered an embarrassing defeat to relegation and crisis-laden Heartland FC in Owerri.
Heartland netted two stunning late goals to record a shocking 3-1 win against the title contenders in an NPFL matchday 16 clash on Thursday.
Heartland shock Remo
Chinedu Ike and Onyekachi were the heroes of the day after their excellent goals in added time turned things around for the troubled side.
Going into the game, Remo Stars were expected to get something from the game against their host, Heartland, who looked set to start the game without a coach, following an order from Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma.
However, after a goalless first half, Heartland broke the deadlock through a Promise Anyanwu penalty in the 50th minute.
The Sky Blues will bounce back to draw level when top scorer, Sikiru Alimi and creator-in-chief, Sodiq Ismail, combined to great effect to make it 1-1 in the 68th.
Just when Remo thought they had done enough to share the spoils, Okafor and Ike scored two stunning goals, including a contender for goal of the season, to give Kennedy Boboye’s men the win and crucial three points.
With the important win, Heartland are now within just a point of safety while Remo Stars, despite the shock defeat, remain top of the NPFL.
