Peace Proscovia, Stella Oyella ruled out of Netball World Cup

Peace plying her trade at Bartercard Surrey Storm in England, and Oyella, who features for Strathclyde Sirens still in the UK, were among the 30 provisional players summoned by She Cranes' head coach Fred Mugerwa. 

Due to illness, Peace was ruled out of the 2023 Netball Super League Season earlier this month; earlier, reports had emerged that Oyella had been ruled out for the rest of the season due to injury.

"They are not making it [for the World Cup]," Mugerwa confirmed to Pulse Sports before adding. 

"Peace is having some issues that may not permit her to play. However, she communicated, and for Oyella, the club told us she is injured." 

The development leaves Loughborough Lighting goal shooter Mary Nuba as the only professional likely to feature for She Cranes at the World Cup.

Peace and Oyella join Joan Nampungu, Jessica Achan and Sandra Nambiringe as the other players to miss the World Cup in Cape Town.

The five all played critical roles as Uganda finished fifth at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in the United Kingdom. 

Peace, Oyella, Achan and Nampungu also played at the 2019 Netball World Cup in Liverpool as Uganda finished seventh. 

Mugerwa is still confident about sending a competitive team: "The girls have just returned from Nairobi [East Africa Club Championships], and some have reported today [Monday] for training." 

Mugerwa also confirmed that the national team squad will be released in about three weeks.

"We expect to release the final World Cup squad in the second week of next month," he said.

So far, only the World Cup host South Africa and England have released their World Cup squads.
