Paris Marathon: Millions Kenyans Sila Kiptoo and Magdalyne Masai Bagged For Finishing Third
Kenyans did not have a fruitful outing at the Paris Marathon on Sunday but two of them still earned a tidy sum after finishing on the podium.
Unlike 2025 when Bernard Biwott won the men’s race, the tables turned this year with Ethiopian-born Italian Yemaneberhan Crippa claiming the top prize while Ethiopia's Shure Demise won the women’s equivalent in a new course record.
Crippa stopped the clock in a personal best of 2:05:16 for the win in the French capital ahead of Bayelign Teshager of Ethiopia, who finished five seconds behind in second place, with Kenyan Sila Kiptoo rounding off the podium in 2:05:26.

Interestingly, this was the second straight year that Kiptoo was finishing third in Paris, but he had a faster time compared to the 2:06:21 that he clocked in 2025.
Meanwhile, in the women’s race, 30-year-old Demise smashed the course record by more than a minute, having won her race in 2:18:33, ahead of compatriot Misgane Alemayehu (2:19:06) and Kenya's Magdalyne Masai (2:19:18).
The winners walked home with a bumper prize money of €50,000 (Ksh7.6 million) while second place attracted €30,000 (Ksh4.5 million). For Kiptoo and Masai, €20,000 (Ksh3 million) will be their take-home after finishing third in Paris.
