NPFL: Remo Stars manager rues "Hostile Atmosphere" after suffering more derby woes
Remo Stars manager Daniel Ogunmodede blamed a "hostile atmosphere" created by Shooting Stars fans for his side's 2-0 Southwest derby defeat in the NPFL on Sunday.
The Sky Blue Stars were brought back down to earth following last week's 4-1 loss at Sporting Lagos by a Christian Pygbara brace for the Oluyole Warriors in Ibadan.
Ten-Man Remo Stars Struggle
The talented gaffer Ogunmodede felt the home supporters played a major part in his team's latest disappointing derby display after initially greeting them warmly.
"The fans were friendly when we came but they created a hostile atmosphere when the game started," the Remo boss stated after the match.
To make matters worse, Remo had to play over an hour a man down after one main man, Sikiru Alimi, was sent off.
Ogunmodede rued: "We lost the game when we were reduced to ten men."
The defeat means the Sky Blue Stars, who were pushing for the NPFL title just a few weeks ago, have now taken zero points from a possible six in their last two derby clashes after going 14 unbeaten.
Their coach will be demanding a response from his side to prevent their season from continuing to unravel following their demoralizing double setback to regional rivals.
At the very least, avoiding further derby day distress could give Remo a shot at regaining the momentum in their unlikely title bid.
Player Security Concerns
Ogunmodede's comments about hostile atmospheres may also raise some security concerns over player safety and treatment in NPFL environments.
It comes after Nigeria international Alimi Sikiru complained of "harassment" from Shooting Stars fans during the very same match at their former club.
Ensuring players are made to feel secure in potentially volatile derby settings has to be a priority for the league going forward.
Few of my teammates went through this hell, mine was worst…Seen some of you jump on my tweet like it was fabricated… https://t.co/5CH7C4sHGt

Despite Remo's woes, it was at least a much-needed shot in the arm for derby heroes Shooting Stars to celebrate after their impressive victory.
