The 21-year-old impressed in the holding midfield position last season with the Seagulls, putting him on the radar of a number of top clubs. However, Brighton have held onto their high valuation of the Ecuadorian.

High interest in Caicedo

Arsenal went all out for him in January but were priced out. Chelsea themselves have had multiple bids rejected, as Brighton insist on receiving over 100 million pounds to let the player go.

Liverpool became the first club to satisfy Brighton's demands; however, the player reportedly had an agreement with the Blues since May, hence turning down the Reds' advances. The Todd Boehly-owned side returned to the negotiation table and have not reportedly reached an agreement with the hard-bargaining Seagulls.

Chelsea finally reach an agreement

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have agreed to pay a British transfer record for the former Independientes del Valle midfielder.

Per the report, the Blues will pay ÂŁ115 million to Brighton. Still, the contract includes a sell-on clause for the Seagulls.

The deal is said to be subject to medicals, which have now been booked. Should he pass, he will sign a deal that runs until 2031, with the option to extend for an additional year.
