Moses Shumah: Harambee Stars Striker Makes History in Zambia
Kenyan striker Moses Shumah continued his record-breaking season in the Zambian Super League when he set a new scoring mark for champions Power Dynamos.
Power Dynamos secured a 3-0 victory over Kabwe Warriors, which extended their lead at the top of the table to seven points, and leaves them on course to defend their title.
The Zambian champions, who had beaten Nkana 1-0 on Saturday, needed just two minutes to open the scoring and it was none other than Shumah who latched onto a defence-splitting pass from Fredrick Mulambia to slot home.
The duo would combine for Power Dynamos’ second goal nine minutes later, Mulambia squaring the ball to Shumah, whose sublime finish left goalkeeper Mangani Banda helpless.
Midfielder Daniel Adoko would score a goal of the season contender to give the Zambian giants a 3-0 lead inside 27 minutes and leave Kabwe Warriors shocked.
Which Records Did Shumah Break?
While Power Dynamos were celebrating the win, Shumah was marking a new milestone in his career as his brace was historic in the sense that he became the first player to hit 20 league goals in the Zambian Super League since 2018, when Idris Mbombo reached the mark.
What is more, Shumah became the first Kenyan to ever hit 20 league goals in the Zambian top flight, beating the previous record of 18 set by compatriot Jesse Were when he played for ZESCO United.
Further, the former Kakamega Homeboyz striker has now netted a brace five times this season and he still has enough time to break more records as Power Dynamos have seven matches left.
Power Dynamos lead the 18-team standings with 61 points from 27 matches, seven more than second-placed Red Arrows, who have played one game more.
Shumah’s form will turn the spotlight on Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy, who has overlooked him during Kenya’s recent international assignments.
