Eriksen rewarded for fighting spirit
The footballing world was left in a sombre mood when the Danish captain fell to the floor in the De Rød-Hvide EURO 2020 clash against Finland in June 2021.
Although he was revived before being stretched out of the pitch, the future of his football career looked bleak, as many anticipated his inability to return to the game.
Following a recovery process that included having a pacemaker implanted in his heart, Eriksen was raring to return to action, but Serie A rules prevented him from playing again for Inter due to his health condition.
The midfielder accepted a temporary move to Brentford, where he inspired the Bees to Premier League survival, earning himself a permanent move to Manchester United.
For his courage and determination to return to the game, he has been awarded the Comeback of the Year in this edition of the Laureus Awards.
