Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr. has spoken out on the future of the club's current coaching team, led by Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze.

The pair took the helm in September after the unexpected departure of head coach Nasreddine Nabi. Instead of appointing a new manager, the club chose to promote Nabi's assistants, entrusting them with guiding the team.

Under their stewardship, Chiefs have played 10 matches, securing four wins, three draws, and suffering two losses. This run has propelled them to third place on the PSL table with 22 points from 11 games, just three points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who have played one more match.

Praise for Interim Leadership

In addition to their league form, the team has also successfully qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup group stages and entered the November international break on the back of a three-game winning streak.

While Motaung Jr. acknowledged the duo's impressive performance, he stopped short of offering long-term guarantees.

"We have a great technical staff and at the moment we’re sitting in a good position on the log, so we’re focused on our process," Motaung Jr. told the media. "I think coach Kaze and coach Khalil have done a tremendous job."

Decision to be Made at Season's End

The 44-year-old explained the club's rationale for retaining Nabi's assistants, emphasizing that their long-term future will be determined by results. The pair are currently in a co-coaching role until the end of the season.

"They have been with this team since last year, and they’ve been part of the process in terms of our recruitment," he added. "We are focused on creating an environment where they can give their best, and we will take it game by game."

"We will look at their futures at the end of the season and take it from there, but right now we’re excited with them."

Kaizer Chiefs are aiming to end a decade-long wait for a league title. The club also faces significant pressure to perform on the continental stage, with the Confederation Cup a key objective. Their group stage campaign will see them face Egyptian clubs Zamalek and Al Masry, as well as Zambia's Zesco United.
