Julian Nagelsmann set to launch tenure as Germany's coach with extensive US tour
The 34-year-old prodigy has been entrusted, per Pulse Sports, with the task of rejuvenating Germany’s Die Mannschaft after their recent disappointing showing in international competition.
His first order of business is a bold and extensive tour of the United States of America, a move that is aimed at not only preparing his squad for the challenges ahead but also rekindling the flame of German football.
Nagelsmann as the new German coach
The German football federation confirmed the appointment of the former Bayern Munich boss during a press conference on Friday.
Nagelsmann’s appointment could have come as a surprise to many but the powers that be were under no illusions as to why the young manager had been chosen to lead the former world champions.
Per President of the Federation, all eyes are on the European Championship next year and they believe Nagelsmann has what it takes to lead them to glory.
“We are convinced that Julian Nagelsmann, as national coach, will ensure that the national team inspires its fans and that the EURO is also a sporting success,” DFB President Bernd Neuendorf said according to their website.
DFB’s sporting director, Rudi Völler added that the former Bavarian was their preferred choice as a football expert who had proven himself everywhere he has been to.
“Julian Nagelsmann was our preferred candidate as national coach when the search began,” Voller added. “He is not only an absolute football expert but has already proven at all his stations - at a very young age for a head coach - that he can motivate and inspire a team and the entire environment.”
Nagelsmann’s first assignment
Known for his tactical brilliance and innovative approach to the game, Nagelsmann, who made his name at RB Leipzig and Hoffenheim, is seen as a breath of fresh air that German football needs at the moment.
To help him in his effort to rejuvenate the team ahead of the European Championship, the DFB confirmed on its website that Nagelsmann and the team will embark on a tour of the US next month.
According to them, the tour will span several cities in the US, with the national team to battle the 2026 FIFA World Cup host, the USA first on October 14 in Hartford, Connecticut.
Germany will then play against Gold Cup winners Mexico in Philadelphia, three days later. Nagelsmann and his team will then face Austria before heading out for the European Championship in Vienna.
