'It’s been exactly the opposite' - Pulisic explains why Chelsea spell was unsuccessful
AC Milan and USMNT superstar Christian Pulisic has offered some insight on his outstanding debut season in Serie A compared to the disappointment at Chelsea.
Pulisic arrived in West London in 2019 with many lauding his talent, but the American struggled to impose himself at Stamford Bridge.
Injuries were a bugbear for Pulisic, who never played more than 27 times for the Blues in the Premier League. However, the 25-year-old has featured 35 times in Serie A this season, playing from the off 31 times.
What Pulisic said about Chelsea and AC Milan
The USMNT player pointed to the non-stop injury issues that plagued him in West London and cited the instability at the five-time Premier League champions.
“There is a simple explanation. During the previous two seasons at Chelsea, I had suffered injuries and some managerial changes that didn’t help me,” Pulisic told Il Giornale, as quoted by Milannews.
“Here at Milan, it’s been exactly the opposite. I’ve felt the trust of everyone from day one, and it was a big turning point.”
Christian Pulisic stats
Pulisic has netted 12 league goals this season and has set up seven, scoring eight match-winning strikes for the Rossoneri. For context, no player in Serie A has scored as many, with Lautaro Martinez’s seven game-clinching strikes close to the USMNT player, despite scoring 12 more than the wide attacker.
What comes next for Pulisic?
Pulisic and Milan have second place sewn up and they can look forward to next season, keen to dethrone rivals Inter, who claimed this year's Scudetto in the derby.
The attacker should feature in this summer’s Copa America to be held on American soil.
