I wish Nigeria the best - South Africa FA president sends message to Super Eagles

The President of the South African Football Association (SAFA), Danny Jordaan, has extended a heartfelt message of support to the Super Eagles of Nigeria ahead of their showdown with the Democratic Republic of Congo in the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup African Playoffs.

Nigeria, led by coach Eric Chelle, will battle the Leopards on Sunday at the Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex in Rabat, Morocco, with a ticket to the intercontinental playoffs at stake.

In a short video posted on SAFA’s official X account, Jordaan recalled how competitive Nigeria’s group was during the qualifiers and expressed confidence in the Super Eagles’ ability to rise to the occasion.

He said, “Nigeria was in our group, it was a tight group, very stressful. I want to wish Nigeria the best in their match against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“To Amaju Pinnick my friend, and the president of the NFF, Ibrahim Gusau, I wish them the best.”

Jordaan also praised the quality of Nigeria’s squad, noting that the Super Eagles boast some of the continent’s finest players.

He added, “Nigeria is a big team. They have players who are among the best in the world, and I hope they will play true to their form and ability and get a good result.”

The Super Eagles booked their place in the final after a thrilling 4-1 victory over Gabon in Thursday’s semi-final.

DR Congo, on the other hand, stunned Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions with a hard-fought 1-0 win to advance.

The winner of Sunday’s clash will advance to the intercontinental playoffs scheduled for March 2026, which serve as the last chance to secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
