He has done a great job - Former Super Eagles star praises Chelle's incredible performance
Former Nigerian international Mutiu Adepoju has lauded Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle for orchestrating a revival of the national team since taking the helm.
Nigeria's journey in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers began on shaky ground, with the team failing to secure a victory in their initial four matches.
However, the team's fortunes have dramatically improved under Chelle's leadership. The Malian tactician has guided Nigeria through an unbeaten streak, recording five wins and two draws to secure a spot in the final stage of the World Cup playoffs.
What Adepoju said
Following Nigeria's convincing 4-1 victory against Gabon on Thursday, Adepoju spoke with Sporty TV, commending the coach for his bravery in accepting the role during a challenging period and for the positive impact he has made.
"I think Chelle has done a great job. Considering the situation we were in when he was hired, not many coaches would have taken the job," Adepoju said.
"He came in, took on the challenge, and is now pulling his weight, putting everything in the right perspective. We are seeing good performances from the Super Eagles. He deserves accolades and all our praise. He is really doing a great job."
The Super Eagles are now set to face DR Congo in the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs on Sunday.
A victory in the match would secure their place in the intercontinental playoffs, keeping their hopes alive for a spot in the World Cup hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
