'I Sincerely Want to Say Sorry' - Daniel Ebenyo Opens Up After Dismal Show at NYC Half Marathon
Daniel Simiu Ebenyo has shared a heartfelt message with his fans following his 13th-place finish at the New York City Half Marathon on Sunday, March 15.
The former world 10,000m silver medallist had been among the top contenders for a podium spot, but struggled as the race progressed and eventually crossed the finish line in 1:00:50.
The men’s race was won by South Africa’s Adriaan Wildschutt, who clocked 59:30, with Zouhair Talbi and Gulveer Singh finishing second and third in 59:41 and 59:42, respectively.
Daniel Simiu Ebenyo: Tough Day in the Office
In a post on his Instagram page, Daniel Ebenyo reflected on his performance at the New York City Half Marathon, admitting that the outcome was far from what he had anticipated.
He expressed regret to his fans and supporters, acknowledging that he felt he had not lived up to their expectations. Ebenyo described the race as particularly difficult, noting that the cold conditions added another layer of challenge to an already demanding event.
Despite the disappointment, he emphasised that such experiences are part of being an athlete, highlighting that every competition brings lessons and that setbacks are an opportunity to learn and grow as a competitor.
“Today was not the day I hoped for. To all my fans and supporters, I sincerely want to say sorry for letting you down. It was a tough day in the office, and the cold weather made it even more challenging. But that is the true spirit of sports, some days we win, and some days we learn,” he shared.
Daniel Ebenyo expressed his deep gratitude to his fans for their unwavering support and encouragement, saying that their belief in him is something he carries with him every time he competes.
He acknowledged that, although the day’s race did not go as planned, he remains determined to return stronger and perform even better in future competitions.
Ebenyo assured his supporters that their hopes are always with him on the track and thanked them for standing by him through both victories and setbacks.
He emphasised that, despite today’s disappointment, his journey as an athlete continues, and he is committed to pushing forward with renewed strength and determination.
“I am grateful for your endless support, encouragement, and belief in me. Please know that every time I step on the starting line, I carry your hopes with me in my heart. ❤️,” he said.
“Today we lose, but tomorrow we rise again. I promise to come back stronger and roar louder next time. Thank you for standing with me through every high and low. The journey continues.”
Daniel Ebenyo started his season at the World Athletics Cross Country Championships, where he won a bronze medal before heading to the Sirikwa Classic Cross Country Championships, where he finished fifth.
