Daniel Simiu Opens Up About Team Kenya Comeback
Daniel Simiu shared that he had been feeling the effects of his recent effort in Chicago and had not intended to participate in the national event.
However, once his employer, the National Police Service, reached out, he decided to take part, noting that any time he is needed, he will always step forward.
Daniel Simiu emphasised that representing his nation comes above all else and expressed joy at being able to compete. He added that the discipline is deeply meaningful to him, forming a core part of his identity and passion as an athlete.
“I feel excited…I was not willing to run the Nationals because I was a bit fatigued from the Chicago Marathon, but when I was called upon by my employer, I decided to show up,” he said after the race.
“If I’m called upon, I have no compromise; my country is more important than anything else, and I’m happy to have made it. Cross country is in my heart and my blood.”
Daniel Simiu expressed his delight at securing a direct ticket to represent the country and spoke proudly about how strongly he identifies with the discipline.
Defending his crown was especially meaningful, and he looked ahead with optimism to the upcoming championship in Florida. He also acknowledged the support of the National Police Service, noting their confidence in his abilities.
Daniel Simiu went on to explain that his coach had urged him to stay mentally sharp throughout the contest, and he added that they plan to review the race carefully and prepare for what comes next.
“I’m happy to win an automatic qualification. Cross country is in my blood and veins. I’m happy to have defended my title, and if all goes well, we will see each other in Florida. I thank the national police service for believing in me,” he added.
“My coach encouraged me to use my mind to win the race. We will go back to the drawing board and plan.”
His focus now shifts to preparations for the World Cross Country Championships, where he intends to reclaim Kenya’s senior title.
