Melissa Jefferson-Wooden equalled Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s record at the World Athletics Championships, becoming just the second woman to win the 100m, 200m and the women’s 4x100m relay.
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce achieved the feat at the 2013 World Athletics Championships in Moscow, Russia. At the time, the 10-time world champion clocked 10.71 seconds to win the 100m, 22.17 to win the 200m, before being a vital part of the team that won the women’s 4x100m relay.
The Olympic 100m bronze medallist became the fourth fastest woman after clocking 10.61 seconds to win the final of the women’s 100m ahead of Tina Clayton and Julien Alfred, who finished second and third.

In the women’s 200m, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden also claimed the title ahead of Amy Hunt and Shericka Jackson. She was also part of Team USAs women’s 4x100m relay team that was anchored to victory by Sha’Carri Richardson.
Melissa Jefferson-Wooden Chasing More Glory Despite World Championships Success
Despite all that success, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden is still not done, as she revealed that she still wants to chase more glory.
She pointed out that her success came from a lot of sacrifice and dedication, insisting that locking in alone does not guarantee any success.
Melissa Jefferson-Wooden added that despite leaving the World Athletics Championships in a happy mood, she still wants to achieve more success.
“If you really lock in and dial in on the things that you want to achieve, but also put in the hard work as well on top of that, the sky’s the limit for you. There are so many things out there that I’ve accomplished this year, but there are so many more things that I want to accomplish,” Melissa Jefferson-Wooden said in an interview with CNN Sport.
“Knowing that I left the World Championships very, very happy, but also, I’m not satisfied just means so much and gets me really, really excited for the years to come.”

Melissa Jefferson-Wooden added that she is looking forward to competing at the LA 2028 Olympic Games, being on home soil.
She noted that many athletes who competed before her never had such an opportunity, revealing that some who are competing at the moment will not compete in LA, but she believes she will be there.
“There have been so many other amazing athletes in America who have come before me and other athletes who are running now that don’t get to say that they have been a part of the Olympic Games on home soil, and so I feel like when I decided to go professional, that was the perfect set-up. I’m excited for LA, and I’m sure it’s going to be one for the books, and I’m so excited,” Melissa Jefferson-Wooden added.
Melissa Jefferson-Wooden’s record-equalling triumph in Tokyo has already etched her name among the sport’s greats, but her hunger for more ensures her story is far from complete.
With her sights set on future championships and the historic LA 2028 Olympics, she is determined to keep pushing boundaries.
