'He is the Man For That' - Gor Mahia Coach Hails Harambee Stars Midfielder After 3-0 Win Over Posta Rangers

Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor has hailed Harambee Stars midfielder Alpha Chris Onyango as one of the best following their 3-0 victory over Posta Rangers in a Kenyan Premier League clash on Sunday at Nyayo National Stadium.

Charles Akonnor praised the game-changing impact of his substitutes, with Alpha Onyango among them. After a tense and scoreless first half, the introduction of fresh legs proved decisive.

Ben Stanley Omondi broke the deadlock in the 58th minute, followed by a strike from Austin Odhiambo in the 71st.

Substitute Felix Oluoch then sealed the comprehensive win deep in stoppage time, delighting the home supporters and handing Posta Rangers their first loss of the season.

The victory, Gor Mahia's third in a row, was dedicated to the club's late patron and former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, whose legacy continues to motivate the team.

The turning point in the match came when Charles Akonnor brought on Alpha Onyango, Ben Stanley Omondi, and Felix Oluoch for Fidel Origa, Samuel Kapen, and Patrice Esombe. The tactical shift paid off almost immediately, with Omondi scoring just a minute after his introduction.

The former Ghana Black Stars coach specifically lauded Alpha Onyango's ability to unlock the opposition's defence through the middle.

"They blocked the wider areas, so we needed to go through the middle. Alpha is the man for that, we knew he could control the game for us," Akonnor explained after the match," Charles Akonnor explained after the match.

"We had planned it. We wanted to be aggressive in the first half, and when that didn't work, we knew Alpha would make the difference."

Reflecting on the performance, Charles Akonnor highlighted his team's tactical discipline, especially after a challenging opening 45 minutes.

"I think we've shown that we are tactically much disciplined. In the first half, we couldn't really function as we wanted because Posta are a good side, we had to respect them," Charles Akonnor stated.

"But in the second half, a little bit of discipline and changes from the bench made all the difference. Sometimes we can win the match from the bench, and those who came in did a very good job."

With the win, Gor Mahia extended their unbeaten start to the season and moved up to third place in the KPL standings with nine points. They sit just one point behind joint leaders Kakamega Homeboyz and Posta Rangers, having played one game fewer.

Next, Gor Mahia will face Mathare United on Thursday, October 30, at Kasarani Stadium. Mathare will enter the match with confidence following a 1-0 victory over Shabana.
