Omondi, who was one of Kenya’s most standout stars at the 2024 African Nations Championships, made his debut for the club against Bidco United in a 1-0 loss last Sunday, but still has enough time to make amends for that unideal start.

Speaking before their clash against Sofapaka on Saturday, Omondi explained the key motivation and drive behind his decision to join Gor Mahia.“Gor Mahia is the biggest team in the country and it is a dream and honor to play for them,” Omondi said.“I have come to push for titles, which is my main aim and expectation with this club,” he continued.

Why Gor Mahia is a Good Move for Byrne Omondi

His wealth of domestic experience, coupled with his heroics in Kenya’s CHAN run, made him an attractive option for Gor Mahia’s new head coach Charles Akonnor, who is keen to build a squad capable of challenging both domestically and in continental football.

Omondi, who won the Sports Journalist Association of Kenya (SJAK) Sports Personality of the Month For August,  admitted that the opportunity to represent a club with Gor Mahia’s stature was too big to turn down. Beyond the trophies, he sees his move as a platform to push himself further.

“We have already started training. I want to push myself to win more awards like these,” he said, hinting at his ambition to add individual honors to team success.

His arrival also comes at a crucial time for K’Ogalo, who are under pressure to reclaim the FKF Premier League crown after finishing last season without silverware.

With the passionate fan base demanding a return to dominance, Omondi’s leadership and consistency could prove vital in stabilizing the team’s defence.

As Gor Mahia prepare for their upcoming clash with Sofapaka, all eyes will be on Omondi to showcase the form that earned him national recognition.
