Gor Mahia’s Mike Kibwage Reflects on Beating Former Side Tusker in Historic 100th League Meeting
Gor Mahia defender Mike Kibwage expressed pride and gratitude after helping K’Ogalo secure a narrow 1–0 victory over Tusker FC in what marked the 100th league meeting between the two Kenyan giants.
The centre-back faced his former employers in a tightly contested clash at Kasarani, where an early own goal decided the historic fixture.
Speaking to the club’s media team, Kibwage acknowledged the toughness of the match and the quality of the opposition.
It Was a Difficult Match - Kibwage
“The game was difficult as you saw. The opponents were good. They are a big team and worthy opponents, and incidentally, my former club,” he said.
Despite the emotional undertone of meeting his old club, Kibwage maintained his focus and delivered a composed performance at the heart of the Gor Mahia defence.
The champions were made to work for all three points as Tusker pushed for an equaliser but ultimately held firm to preserve the win.
Kibwage credited hard work and collective resilience for the positive result.
“It was expected to be a difficult game, but we thank God for the three points. The focus now turns to APS Bomet.”
The Kenya international also highlighted the growing support from the Gor Mahia faithful, noting the increasing numbers returning to the stands with each game.
He believes maintaining strong performances is the best way to honour their commitment.
“We appreciate the fans who are coming back in larger and larger numbers. The good thing is that we are winning. That is how we can appreciate them.”
As Gor Mahia continue their push to extend their lead at the top of the FKF Premier League table, Kibwage’s leadership and consistency remain vital components in the club’s pursuit of another title.
