Gor Mahia Install New Patron Following Raila Odinga’s Death
Gor Mahia have moved with speed to install a new patron following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Odinga has been the long-serving K’Ogalo patron but his death has necessitated a changing of guard in the club’s leadership.
While Kenyans continue to mourn the political legend, Gor Mahia have announced that Eliud Owalo will now be the new club patron, succeeding Odinga.

Owalo was the deputy club patron and it was an easy transition for the record Kenyan champions who perhaps wanted to avoid any issues over the position after Odinga’s burial.
Why Have Gor Mahia Moved With Speed?
“Following the sad demise of our long-serving club patron, the Right Honourable Raila Amolo Odinga and in order to avoid the vacuum created thereby, the Gor Mahia executive committee wishes to inform the general public, the Gor Mahia Football Club members in particular, that the deputy patron Hon Eliud Owalo will act as the club patron with immediate effect,” Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier said via a statement.
Owalo has been a great supporter of Gor Mahia especially since he became a Cabinet Secretary, offering moral and financial support, and there had been claims that he was looking to dislodge Odinga as patron before the post of deputy was created.
The Gor Mahia fraternity will be hoping that his leadership helps bring success, stability and peace among K’Ogalo members now that Odinga is no more.
Gor Mahia are looking to reclaim the Premier League title they lost to Kenya Police last season and had won back-to-back matches before the league was suspended for a week following Odinga’s death.
