Reflecting on the honor, the sprint icon said:
“Yeah, definitely. For me, being able to have contributed to this sport for 18 years has been incredible. I never thought I would be in this moment, and track and field has truly changed my life,” she told Katelyn Hutchinson.
She added that the event was not just about her individual journey but about celebrating the progress of women in sport:
“Being here and being honored in this space is wonderful — not just for me as someone now retired from the sport, but also for seeing other women being celebrated and finally getting the recognition they deserve. Being front and center and celebrating excellence in this way is truly fantastic.”
Never Give up on Your Dreams - Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce
The crowning was led by Serena Williams, herself a symbol of athletic power and longevity, who described Fraser-Pryce as “a living example of grace, grit, and greatness.”
When asked what message she had for young athletes inspired by her journey, Fraser-Pryce delivered powerful words of motivation:
“Whatever your heart’s desire is, be fearless in pursuing it, and never let anyone change your mind.”
She went on to reflect on her own battles with doubt and perseverance:
“Throughout my career, I’ve had people tell me I couldn’t, or I shouldn’t, or that someone else deserved the chance — but I’ve learned that every moment you step into is your moment. You should own it, step into your power, and embrace it fully.”
The ATHLOS 2025 event, curated to celebrate legendary women in sport and culture, symbolized a full-circle moment for Fraser-Pryce — from the young girl who rose from Waterhouse, Kingston, to one of the greatest sprinters in history.
