Faith Kipyegon Upbeat With Kenyan Team for World Championships
Triple Olympic gold medalist and Faith Kipyegon has expressed optimism about Kenya’s squad for the upcoming 2025 World Athletics Championships set for September 13–21 in Tokyo, Japan.
Kipyegon, who skipped the national trials held on Tuesday after securing automatic qualification, remains upbeat about the depth and talent within the team.

“This is a solid team,” she said as quoted by Citizen Digital while also expressing confidence in her own preparation.
“I am healthy and the selected squad has what it takes, and we’ll do everything possible to bring the medals home.”
Kipyegon will be eyeing a historic fifth world title in Tokyo.
She is coming off a sensational performance at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, on July 5, where she shattered her own 1500m world record, clocking an astonishing 3:48.68, mproving her previous mark of 3:49.11.
The reigning world mile record holder will also return to the 5000m, setting the stage for another showdown with current world 5000m record holder Beatrice Chebet.
Star-Studded Team Eyes Tokyo Haul
Kipyegon is part of a formidable Kenyan contingent that includes middle-distance star Emmanuel Wanyonyi, javelin thrower and former world champion Julius Yego, sprint ace Ferdinand Omanyala, 800m Commonwealth champion Mary Moraa, and youngster Faith Cherotich.
Beatrice Chebet, who has had a strong season in the Diamond League circuit, adds further firepower to the long-distance lineup.
Kenya is targeting an improvement from their performance at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, where they bagged 10 medals—three gold, three silver, and four bronze.
With the 2025 Championships returning to Tokyo, where Kipyegon won Olympic gold in 2021, hopes are high that the team can assert its dominance on the global stage.
