Julien Mette Reveals How Tusker FC Tamed Gor Mahia in FKF Super Cup

Tusker FC coach Julien Mette has praised his side for delivering a commanding performance against Gor Mahia in the FKF Super Cup clash at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday, August 24.

The Brewers secured a convincing 3-1 victory, with Francis Oduor, Eugene Ikutwa and Ian Simiyu finding the net for Tusker, while Ikutwa’s own goal handed Gor Mahia a consolation.

Gor Mahia pushed for a comeback after the break but struggled to find a way through Tusker’s defence, earning plenty of praise from Mette for the team’s disciplined display and ability to see out the victory.

Julien Mette described the victory as an encouraging start for Tusker FC, particularly because it came against a Gor Mahia side that had recently reached the CECAFA Kagame Cup final.

The French coach stressed that the match provided a serious test for his players rather than the kind of low-pressure encounter associated with pre-season fixtures, and he felt the Brewers responded well to the challenge.

He was particularly pleased with the team’s attacking efficiency, noting that they created enough quality to find the net three times while also showing the composure required to withstand Gor Mahia’s attempts to get back into the contest.

Mette also credited his players for maintaining their organisation when the pressure increased, saying their ability to handle the different phases of the match reflected the progress they have made.

Beyond the result, he felt Tusker showed encouraging qualities in their decision-making, execution and mentality, giving him plenty of reasons to be satisfied with the overall performance.

“It’s a good start…it was a competitive game, not a friendly against the champions who were in the final of the CECAFA Kagame Cup. It was a tough game, and I think we deserved the win. We scored three good goals and managed them well when they came back. In terms of tactical, technical and mental, it was a good game from our side,” Julien Mette said.

The Tusker coach also singled out the club’s new signings for praise, saying the newcomers have settled into the squad positively and adapted well to the team’s demands so far.

He believes their smooth integration has strengthened the group and given the technical team additional options as the new season approaches.
