Ryan Ogam: Benni McCarthy is Helping Me A Lot
Ryan Ogam revealed that when he started his career, he never imagined himself as a striker, but he is slowly becoming one of the best, thanks to Benni McCarthy.
Benni McCarthy, a former striker himself, has from time to time noted that Ryan Ogam reminds him of his playing days, something that the 20-year-old forward believes is an inspiration.
He revealed that going into Harambee Stars match against Morocco, Benni McCarthy advised him to give his all, and avoid thinking about the time while on the pitch.
That worked out well for Harambee Stars as Ogam solely focused on the match and gave his all on the pitch, placing Kenya in the lead to the last minute.
“I thank God, and now that I scored the winning goal, my morale is high, and I hope that as we progress, I will continue scoring. I began my career as a defensive midfielder before transitioning to a striker, a position I have played for about a year,” Ryan Ogam admitted.
“Benni McCarthy is helping me a lot in terms of training, and he is guiding me to become a better player. I think today the message that I took from him is to give my best on the pitch, even if I played for 45 minutes.”
He added that the thousands of fans who showed up were also a source of inspiration for the players, as he dedicated the win to them.
“The support from the fans has been impeccable, and this win is for them. I think when the match progressed, they continued coming out in large numbers,” he revealed.
As Harambee Stars now gear up for their final group stage match against Zambia on Sunday, August 17, Ryan Ogam wants to continue making a mark and hopefully score one more time.
