Manchester United have turned their attention to Benjamin Šeško to solve their striker woes after Arsenal snatched Viktor Gyökeres from under their noses.

The Red Devils, having witnessed the struggles of Rasmus Højlund and Jadon Sancho up front last season, have identified the RB Leipzig forward as the solution to their attacking inefficiencies. United have reportedly agreed personal terms with the 22-year-old Slovenian, and a transfer appears imminent.

Having seemingly beaten Newcastle to his signature, Šeško is expected to don the iconic red shirt for the 2025/26 season and beyond. But what squad number will Šeško take upon his arrival at Old Trafford?

Benjamin Sseko's Squad Number History

Šeško began his senior career with Austrian club FC Liefering, on loan from the Red Bull Salzburg academy. He quickly caught the eye with his goalscoring prowess, netting 22 times in 44 appearances while wearing the number 21 shirt.

Upon returning to Salzburg, he immediately made an impact in the first team but, as a youngster, was handed the less prominent number 30.

He retained this number for the remainder of his time in Austria, and subsequently after moving to sister club RB Leipzig in 2023.

Despite more glamorous options becoming available, he opted to keep 30 in Germany, embracing his "breakthrough" number during two impressive Bundesliga seasons.

This would likely be his first choice at Manchester United. On the international stage, he has sported two different numbers for Slovenia – initially 25, and more recently 11.

Unfortunately for Šeško, his preferred number 30 is currently unavailable. Summer signing Diego Leon was recently allocated that number following his arrival from Cerro Porteño.

It is unlikely United would ask the young Paraguayan to relinquish his new number so quickly, and a potential loan move to free it up doesn't appear to be on the cards this season.

The traditional number 9 shirt is currently occupied by Højlund, whose place could be under threat by Sesko's arrival, while the number 11 shirt, which the Slovenian wears for his national team, is already taken by Sancho.

According to Sports Illustrated, numbers 14, 20, 27, 28, and 29 appear to be the most realistic options for Šeško at this stage.

However, the potential departures of Tyrell Malacia (12), Alejandro Garnacho (17), and Antony (21) could open up further possibilities for the potentially expensive new signing.
