AFCON 2027: How Sweden-Based Harambee Stars Prodigy Could Be Key Asset for Benni McCarthy
Harambee Stars prodigy Stanley Wilson, who continues to impress in Sweden with AIK Fotboll, has offered insight into his growing role within the team and his adaptability on the pitch, as he remains a strong option for Benni McCarthy ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The 19-year-old, who was recently in action during his side’s 2-2 draw against IF Brommapojkarna in the Allsvenskan, reflected on how his responsibilities have evolved within the squad and how he has embraced different tactical demands placed on him by the coaching staff.
Stanley Wilson: I Feel Better On the Pitch
Stanley Wilson explained that his development has been heavily influenced by the club’s philosophy of encouraging players to adapt to different situations during matches, which has helped him gain confidence and maturity in his overall game.
He noted that being trusted to operate in multiple roles, shifting between defensive duties and more advanced midfield responsibilities, has not only improved his understanding of the game but also allowed him to contribute more effectively to the team’s collective structure.
The youngster added that this flexibility has made him more comfortable on the pitch, as it challenges him to stay alert, disciplined, and connected with teammates throughout the game.
Stanley Wilson further indicated that the team’s approach is built on working together and continuously improving performances, which he fully embraces as part of his development.
Wilson also emphasised that being on the pitch consistently remains his biggest motivation, as it allows him to grow, learn, and keep pushing his level higher with every appearance.
“To build our courage and to move on from there. I love it, it’s the game plan of the team, so it’s on with me and with the club (Playing as a fullback in defense and inverted midfielder). We want to work together as a team and keep on doing what wee do better. I feel better being on the pitch,” he said after the match.
