AFC Leopards Edge Ulinzi Stars in Rainy Clash to Keep Pressure on Gor Mahia in Title Race
AFC Leopards secured a commanding 2-0 victory in rainy and slippery conditions at Nyayo National Stadium, keeping their Kenyan Premier League title hopes alive.
The result narrowed the gap between Leopards and rivals Gor Mahia to just four points, with AFC now on 61 points compared to Gor Mahia’s 65.
Prior to their clash, AFC Leopards secured a 2–1 victory against Mara Sugar on May 9. On the same day, Ulinzi Stars fought to a 0–0 draw in their away match against Shabana FC.

Despite the pouring rain, AFC Leopards had a very lively start to the match with two shots from Victor Omune being saved and Kayci Odhiambo’s free kick going off target.
In the 10th minute, Ulinzi Stars looked to establish their rhythm against AFC Leopards following a cagey opening where possession was heavily contested in the midfield.
In the 20th minute, Nyongesa broke through in a brilliant one-on-one situation for Ulinzi Stars, but Katasi stood tall and pulled off a huge save to deny the opener.
Ulinzi Stars continued to pile on the pressure as the clock hit the 22nd minute, with Nyongesa whipping a dangerous cross into the area that Kayci Odhiambo reacted to just in time, intercepting it for a corner.
In the 25th minute, Hassan Beja unleashed an effort at goal from the left wing that the Ulinzi Stars goalkeeper could only punch into the path of Tyson Otieno, who unfortunately failed to get his shot away.
By the 34th minute, a great attacking move saw Staphod Odhiambo make a fantastic run down the right after being picked out beautifully by Boniface Muchiri.

In the 64th minute, Ulinzi Stars looked for a fresh spark upfront by introducing Musambai and Odhiambo to replace Staphod and Nyongesa.
Despite the onslaught, AFC Leopards managed to maintain their composure by the 65th minute, defending resolutely while simultaneously launching dangerous counter-attacks to keep the opposition on their toes.
As the match entered the 70th minute, AFC Leopards came agonisingly close to a second goal when Tyson Otieno unleashed a strike, but the Ulinzi Stars goalkeeper reacted just in time to pull off a crucial save.
The match took a concerning turn for AFC Leopards in the 74th minute as Tyson Otieno was forced to limp off the pitch after picking up an injury.
In the 82nd minute, Emmanuel Lwangu rose highest to meet the ball with a stunning header, nearly doubling the advantage for AFC Leopards in the closing stages of the match.
Deep into stoppage time, AFC Leopards looked to see out the result by making a double substitution, bringing on Ronald Sichenje and Fredrick Alushula to replace Kelly Madada and James Kinyanjui.
