Millions AFC Leopards Banked from Sold-Out 99th Mashemeji Derby
AFC Leopards have given an insight into how much was raised from the 99th Mashemeji Derby staged at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.
Gor Mahia secured maximum points and the derby bragging rights when Alpha Onyango’s late goal settled the contest which could have an impact on who wins the FKF Premier League title.
As it has become the norm, the match was sold out with Leopards, the home team on the day banking a bumper sum.
The club has revealed how many tickets were sold during Sunday’s match, having offered different packages when they went up for sale over one week before kick-off.
“A total of 20,336 tickets were sold in yesterday's #𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐣𝐢𝐃𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐲 at Nyayo Stadium on Saturday (sic). We take this opportunity to thank all of us for purchasing the tickets and the support you gave the boys,” Leopards posted on social media.
How Much Did Ingwe Generate?
However, Ingwe opted against revealing the total amount raised, leaving the figure to speculation.
Leopards had various packages when the tickets went up on sale, with the terrace tickets retailing at Ksh300 for those who purchased between April 14 and 19 and Ksh500 for those who came from April 20-23 and Ksh1,000 for the fans who bought between April 24 and 25.
VIP tickets were retailing at Ksh2,000. Going by conservative estimates of Ksh300 for each of the 20,336 tickets, Leopards banked over Ksh6 million but the figure is much bigger given fans purchased tickets on various days and for different sitting areas.
Total ticket sales have been hovering around Ksh7 million in the previous two Mashemeji Derbies played at Nyayo Stadium with Leopards generating Ksh7.3 million when they hosted Gor Mahia in March 2025 while K’Ogalo made Ksh7 million when they welcomed Ingwe at the same venue last December.
