AC Milan beware, stats show that Napoli will not miss injured Osimhen

Napoli will be without injured star Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen in their Serie A clash against AC Milan, but data suggests that they will be just as dangerous without the league’s top scorer when they take on the Rossoneri. 

Osimhen has been one of Napoli’s most important players in the 2022/23 season and has scored 25 goals in 29 games, including 21 in Serie A as the Partenopei march towards a first Scudetto since 1990. 

Osimhen has helped Napoli open up a 19-point lead at the top of the Serie A table, but the Partenopei will have to do without him after he picked up an injury during the international break. 

Osimhen injured his adductor muscle while on duty with the Super Eagles of Nigeria, and will be unavailable for at least one week, but a look at the 24-year-old’s previous injury absence this season suggests that Napoli will be just fine without him. 

Osimhen suffered a thigh muscle injury earlier in the season which ruled him out of action for a month and forced Napoli to play seven fixtures without him in all competitions. 

Napoli won all seven of the games that Osimhen missed in that injury spell, scoring 19 goals in the process, which should give them confidence that they will survive his latest injury woes. 

One of the seven games Osimhen missed earlier in the season included the reverse fixture against Milan in Serie A, which Napoli won 2-1 thanks to goals from Matteo Politano and Giovanni Simeone, and the league leaders will be hoping for a repeat performance against the Milan club when they play on Sunday.
