The leading trio had no major problems on the opening day of the Tisap Sevens in Eldoret but Kenya Harlequin, Nakuru and Homeboyz had it rough.

National Sevens Circuit leaders Kabras Sugar, second-placed KCB, and Menengai Oilers were among the teams that secured a quarter-final ticket at the Tisap Sevens in Eldoret on Saturday.

On a day that witnessed a number of upsets, it was business as usual for the leading trio with KCB starting with a 28-0 thrashing of Mombasa Sports Club, a result that saw them take pole position in Pool A after Blak Blad and Homeboyz had played to a 14-14 draw.

The Bankers silenced Blak Blad by the same score line before demolishing Homeboyz 35-5 to end their group stage campaign unbeaten and top of Pool A.

Menengai Oilers were 12-7 winners over Catholic Monks, a result that gave them leadership in Pool B, while Strathmore Leos bounced back from their first round shocker to defeat Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology 31-7.

Oilers ensured top spot in Pool B with a 14-12 win against Masinde Muliro while Strathmore would suffer a 12-5 defeat to Catholic Monks.

In Pool C, Kabras Sugar were 22-7 winners over Kisumu as Kenya Harlequin left it late, scoring at the death to register their maiden win, a 19-12 score against the Daystar Falcons.

Kabras then thrashed Daystar Falcons 26-7 to tighten their grip on top spot while Kisumu also went through from the group after stunning Harlequin 12-5, the win coming after a narrow 22-21 triumph over Daystar.

In Pool D, Nondies went through as group winners after a flawless run. They downed Mwamba 26-19 having beaten Trojans 26-5 in their opener and added Nakuru to their list of casualties with a 21-5 win.

The Eldoret leg has so far witnessed a number of giant killing results and more will be expected during the knockout phase on Sunday.

Kabras came into the Tisap tournament leading the National Sevens Circuit with 80 points, two ahead of KCB, with the two sides having won two legs each from the four played before heading to Eldoret.
