The KCB scrum half has represented Kenya from the U16 level all the way to both 15s and sevens senior teams over a 10-year period
Shujaa scrum half Samwel Asati has sent a message to upcoming Kenyan rugby players who harbor dreams of playing for the side one day.
Asati, who plays for KCB at club level, has recently cemented his place as a key figure of the side under the stewardship of head coach Kevin Wambua, who has already guided the side to Olympics qualification.
Asati was part of the Kenya Sevens Under 16 contingent that represented Kenya in South Africa and Germany (2013 and 2014 respectively). The squad also had hard hitter Dominic Coulson.
He was also a key player for the U20 side in 2018 where he produced a valiant display in the Barthes Cup final but had to endure heartbreak as Chipu fell to a 37-18 loss to Namibia U20 at Windhoek’s Hage Geingob Stadium.
While still at the KCB academy, Asati was one of the crucial players who helped the Cubs win the Erick Shirley Shield beating Resolution Impala Boks 21-17 in a hotly contested final.
He then broke into senior level through Kenya Simbas and is now with the Kenya Sevens. He has become the epitome of what nurturing a player and getting through the process of becoming a key player at the senior level means.

RUGBY Shujaa captain Tony Omondi banking on Dubai Challenger Series lessons to triumph in Uruguay
Kenya Sevens co-captain Tony Omondi has revealed what the side learnt during their succesful opening Dubai Challenger series that they will use to perform even better in Uruguay.
“The process never fails, so you have to trust it and you have to mark the steps of growth, each minute, day by day and you must not rush things,” Asati told Pulse Sports.
“You have to go step by step and believe in yourself.”
Asati wants to help the side return to the HSBC SVNS having already secured Olympic qualification, but is looking forward to taking part in the Olympics in Paris.

Onyala believes Lamec Ambetsa will be equal to the task in Patrick Odongo's absence for the side's tour of Uruguay at the ongoing HSBC Challenger Series.
“The Olympics is the highest sporting pinnacle any player dreams of taking part in. Playing in the Olympics is a plus to me and generally the whole team.”
Meanwhile, the 24-year old has revealed the team’s target for the upcoming Challenger Series in Uruguay.
“Going to the Challengers, the mentality is set, with the sole goal being to go back to the HSBC World Series,” said Asati.

RUGBY Shujaa sensation Patrick Odongo reveals why he has been performing excellently despite setbacks in his private life
Odongo lost his mother right before Kenya played in Harare for the Paris 2024 Olympic qualifiers but was still named most valuable player, and recently, his dad was admitted to hospital.
“We have to do whatever it takes to go back there. We’ve been in camp for training and also playing for our clubs to maintain match fitness. We have been focusing on the things we did not do well.”
“We lost one match in Dubai, lost against Germany, but that has not been the main focus. Generally, coming up with other tactics to make us even more unpredictable.
“The sole goal is to win the tournament because it will ensure we are in a better place as we head to the main goal in Madrid where we will have the playoff Challenger which if we win, we will be back into the Series.”
