Sparks are expected to fly when KCB host Kabras Sugar.

Local rugby fans have been made to wait for close to three months for arguably the biggest fixture in club rugby as KCB take on reigning Kenya Cup champions Kabras Sugar RFC on Saturday 18 February.

This will be the penultimate round of the regular season before Kenya Cup proceeds to the Playoffs where both KCB and Kabras have already punched their tickets to the semi-finals.

The two sides are enjoying imperious form having won all their nine games this season with KCB claiming a bonus point in each and every encounter, a run that sees them sit at the summit of the log.

Kabras on the other hand failed to pick up a bonus point in the 21-0 win over fellow Kakamega rivals Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), leaving them a point below KCB.

The clash promises to be a tracker with the all-important top spot in the Kenya Cup standings that guarantees home advantage in the semis and finals of the competition up for grabs.

KCB assistant coach Dennis Mwanja was well aware of the crucial point of the season and revealed that they have now figured out the strength in their squads.

“We have reached the business end of the league, we have tested our combinations, we have our systems and now we have settled on the squads which will take us forward,” said Mwanja.

Another exciting battle in Matchday 10 will not only see a relegation six-pointer but also a Vasrity Derby between Mean Machine and an out-of-form Strathmore Leos.

Leos who have booked a ticket to the semi-finals of the Kenya Cup in the last two seasons are enduring an indifferent season and will look to beat the University of Nairobi’s Mean Machine to secure their top-flight status.

MMUST who are also starring down the barrel as they are rooted to the bottom of the standings will face Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad in another Varsity Derby with the former hoping for a win to ease their relegation woes.
