Alexandra Ndolo has expressed excitement following her recent achievement at the African Championships.

German-born Kenyan fencer Alexandra Ndolo has yet again marked a great career milestone following her recent victory at the African Championships in Casablanca, Morocco.

Ndolo, the 2022 World Fencing Championships, claimed the gold medal and was proud to have represented Kenya in great fashion. Moroccan star Camilia El Kord finished second in the event with the Egyptian duo of Aya Hussein and Shirwit Gaber tying on third place.

The 37-year-old was in awe of her performance, sharing the great news on her Instagram page saying: “African Champion…So proud to have won the African Championships today and bring victory home to Kenya.”

She has since qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and these events are part of training ahead of chasing history to the event as the first Kenyan to compete in fencing at the showpiece.

Ndolo secured the coveted slot after displaying her world-class skills and grit at the FIE Women's Epee World Cup in Nanjing, China earlier this year where she finished 11th out of 191 competitors. She made it to the Round of 16 before she lost 15-9 to Alicja Klasic of Poland.

Being the first ever Kenyan to qualify for the Olympics in fencing, she has her work cut out as she chases the Olympic dream and there is certainly pressure for her to deliver.

Following her qualification, she promised work around the clock and ensure she represents Kenya well in the global showpiece and she is clearly working towards achieving that goal.

“Officially qualified and heading to Paris! Being in the Olympics and being the first Kenyan to compete in fencing is a dream come true!

“Ready to put in the hard work and represent Kenya with everything I’ve got on the big stage. Thanks to my family, friends, coaches, and club for supporting me thus far.

“Also, a special thanks to my mum for supporting me unconditionally throughout the last months. Grateful to have all of you around me. Let’s make history together!” she said.
