The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) and the Kenya police are keen on ensuring the safety of all athletes who will be participating in the maiden Kenya Beach Games over the weekend.
The event is set to be staged at the Buntwaani Waterfront Park in Malindi and has attracted over 700 athletes while 200 officials will also be on the ground.
NOC-K Secretary General Francis Mutuku noted that they want to ensure the players and officials are in safe hands as they look to host a successful event.
“As NOC-K, we are here to ensure that our players and officials are safe, secure, and fully focused on playing. That is the only reason all these players are here,” Mutuku said.
The Senior Superintendent of Police John Kemboi also promised that the athletes and officials are guaranteed safety.
“Our people are peaceful, enjoy sports, love fun, and they certainly enjoy visitors and offer visitors great hospitality. However, I can assure NOC-K and the Malindi Public that I have gone around the Park and all systems are set. Policemen will be deployed here to ensure security has gone a notch higher,” he said.

Meanwhile, after a soccer tournament held by the county on Thursday 16 March for a set run, the security guards and policemen held a briefing with the management of the park and NOC-K, and groups of security agents were selected for each sport.
It was also noted that frisking and screening will be done at the gate before the public enters the Park.
